Chiara Mannarino is a curator, writer, and art historian with over 5 years of experience organizing and developing exhibitions and programs, working closely with artists and institutions, and writing reviews and profiles for international art magazines. Chiara is passionate about fostering positive and collaborative relationships with artists, institutions, and other arts professionals to realize innovative and cutting-edge projects.

Chiara holds an MA in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art in London (2020) and a BA in Media Studies from Vassar College (2018). They were the curator of Margherita Raso: Vizio di Forma (2022), presented by Magazzino Italian Art in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in New York and Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò at New York University, and the co-curator of Impressions of the Flowers Themselves, presented at the tenth anniversary edition of Spring/Break Art Show (2022). Other curatorial projects in which they were involved include: Gilardi: Tappeto-Natura (2022), Nivola: Sandscapes (2021), Namsal Siedlecki: Viandante (2021), and Homemade (2020), all presented by Magazzino Italian Art; A Fractured Sigh at BravinLee Gallery (2020); and Non-places and the Spaces in Between at the Italian Cultural Institute, New York (2019).

Chiara has completed internships in the curatorial departments of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum, and the International Center of Photography (ICP). They were also an assistant on the large-scale and international Red Regatta project and an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. Chiara organized a series of public programs to enrich a weekend of film screenings called “Cinema in Piazza” at Magazzino Italian Art in June 2022 and led a conversation with artist Melissa McGill on opening night. They were also a speaker at the 2020 CHASE Feminist Network Conference (Foundling Museum, London) and moderated Reflections on Homemade: Artist Conversations, hosted by Magazzino Italian Art (2020). Chiara has published exhibition reviews, artist interviews, and articles in Flash Art, Burlington Contemporary, Femme Art Review, and Flaunt Magazine, and also contributed to the Homemade and Nivola: Sandscapes exhibition catalogues, published by Magazzino Italian Art.

In 2021, Chiara completed the Comprehensive Appraisal Studies Program at the Appraisers Association of America and is Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice Compliant through 2025. Chiara is currently pursuing a PhD in Art History at CUNY, The Graduate Center. They most recently curated the inaugural exhibition of the Tristate Italian Art Prize, a new initiative of the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in New York. Previously, Chiara was a member of the original team of catalogue raisonné researchers at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. In February 2024, Chiara joined The Museum of Modern Art, where they currently serve as a Curatorial Assistant in the Robert B. Menschel Department of Photography, and are a member of the museum’s C-MAP Africa Research Group.
